The Junction City Brigade spring training event at Rathert Field attracted a good turnout Saturday and raised some money to help support the new summer collegiate baseball team.
The Director of Operations for the Brigade Michael Heldstab stated, “It’s a good crowd for the beer garden. I hope that we’re much bigger than this for baseball games though. But I’m very pleased for today.” Heldstab estimated the attendance at a few hundred people during the event that began at 3 p.m. Saturday and extended into the evening hours.
The Brigade will be a summer collegiate baseball team that opens play June 1 against the Rossville Rattlers at Rathert Field.
The Brigade will fill a void left when the Junction City Generals summer collegiate baseball team ceased operations two years ago.
