A late night fire has destroyed the Military Outlet store in the 700 block of North Washington Street in downtown Junction City.
The cause of the blaze is still undetermined. A state Fire marshall’s Office investigator has been called in to assist in determining the cause.
Junction City firefighters responded to the blaze about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, and it took approximately two to three hours to bring the blaze under control. Fort Riley firefighters also provided assistance.
According to officials the interior of the building at 722 North Washington where the Military Outlet Store was located was gutted. There is also smoke damage to the upstairs area that housed the Masonic Lodge, and minor smoke damage to adjacent businesses Fashion Town and Vernon Jewelers. The stone building, itself is still standing.
Officials have put up traffic barricades closing off the 700 block of North Washington to vehicle traffic. Those are expected to remain in place until about mid-afternoon.
