In recognition of the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks Fort Riley officials will hold a commemoration ceremony Wednesday, September 9th, at the Global War on Terrorism Monument on post.
The ceremony is open to the public and starts at 10 a.m. according to Steve Elstrom, Fort Riley Public Affairs.
” We are recognizing the bravery and the heroism of those who answer the nations call to remain on point defending America in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon 12 years ago.”
Major General Paul Funk, Fort Riley Commanding General, is expected to give a speech during the ceremony. Funk will also place a wreath in front of the monument.
The Global War on Terrorism Monument is a small replica of the Twin Tours on a Pentagon shaped base. It bears the names of Fort Riley Soldiers who have given their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.
