Lorena Ruth Schultz, a resident of Chapman, KS, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, KS at the age of 87.
Lorena was born August 20, 1926 at Junction City, KS. Her parents were Fred and Mabel Schmutz Baer. She attended Fragrant Hill, a country one-room grade school, and she graduated from Chapman High School with the Class of 1944. She was employed at the Upland Mutual Insurance Company as a Clerk Typist. She also worked at the Regional Offices for the Boy Scouts in Topeka, KS for a period of time. She returned to work for the Upland Mutual Insurance Co. where she met and married James E Schultz June 3, 1951. While Jim completed Pre-Med at Kansas State University, she worked at the First Methodist Church in Manhattan, KS. She worked at the K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, KS helping to put her husband through medical school. The family moved to Council Grove in 1958, and that is where Lorena raised their family. She lived in Abilene, KS from 1993 till 2004 when she moved to Junction City, KS. After a serious illness in 2009, she made her home at Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman, KS. She was a member of the Alida Upland Cooperative Parish.
She is survived by one son, Roger Wayne Schultz and his wife Debra of Houston, TX; one daughter Debra Louise Schultz and her husband Michael Morrison of Manlius, NY; five grandchildren: Shelby, Alyssa, and Aubrey Schultz, Jacob and Isaac Morrison; one sister Mildred McAllaster of Hutchinson, KS. She was preceded in death by one daughter Joann Elaine Schultz on August 16, 1980, one son Gregory James Schultz on July 24, 1996, her husband James E. Schultz on April 16, 1998, one sister Nadine Seaman.
Funeral services will be held at the Alida Upland Cooperative Parish, 2243-3300 Ave., northeast of Chapman, KS, on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor Rob Bolton will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Londeen Funeral Chapel, 206 W. 5th, in Chapman, KS, Monday, February 17, from 5:30 till 7:30 P.M. The Londeen Funeral Chapel will be open for visitation beginning Monday afternoon at1:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the Alida Upland Cooperative Parish.
