Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf said Monday evening that asphyxiation was the cause of death for a Geary County Detention Center inmate, 27-year-old Kyle William Andrews, Manhattan. “This gentleman decided that he was going to commit suicide. He went to the shower stall, pulled the curtain, and hung himself with a bedsheet inside the shower stall.”
Wolf said some Andrews’ cell mates thought he had been in the shower quite awhile so they tried to make contact with him. When he didn’t respond they checked on him and then called for corrections officers.
Corrections staff began live saving measures. Junction City Fire and EMS arrived and took over. They transported Andrews to Geary Community Hospital, and he was the moved to the KU Medical Center unresponsive. Andrews was removed from life support Monday morning and passed away.
