Assistant Geary County Attorney Tony Cruz confirmed meth has always been a problem. “However within the last few years we are seeing more and more of it.”
Cruz said part of the reason is that several states have decriminalized or legalized marijuana to a certain extent. “A lot of the organizations that made money selling black market marijuana had to diversify. And what we are seeing are a lot of the drug cartels manufacturing a lot of methamphetamine.” Cruz added over the last couple of years the price of meth has dropped from about $100 per gram down to about $60 per gram.
Cruz noted meth is hard to address because it is an addictive drug.
There can be treatment of people for methamphetamine, or through law enforcement the sellers of meth can be prosecuted and put in prison.
