The books are being donated through the library’s book donation program, DBPL at DBPL: Donating Books to Promote Literacy. This program raises funds through grants, community events, and donations in order to purchase books to put in the hands of Geary County community members. Increased access to literature provides greater opportunity to read, encourages the love of reading, and thereby strengthens literacy skills in our community—which in turn strengthens the community itself.
The books being donated to the USD 475 elementary schools will be delivered by the end of this month. Thirteen elementary schools are receiving 100 books each for use in their school or classroom libraries or for distribution to their students. Opportunity to provide these schools with the books comes from the support of community members, businesses, and organizations who have contributed to and/or sponsored DBPL at DBPL: Donating Books to Promote Literacy fundraising events.
The next DBPL at DBPL fundraiser is the fall Community Flea Market, to be held Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Heritage Park.
