He was born February 27, 1939, in Lime Springs, Iowa, the son of Willis and Dorothy (Billman) Lloyd. Karl graduated from High School and joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving on ice breakers. He married Judy Finley on March 19, 1961, and they had 4 children: Kyle, Tina, Jill, and Rusty. They lived in Manhattan before moving to Alta Vista, where they made their home. Judy passed away on January 25, 2006. Karl later married Lavonne Siegrist on June 30, 2007.
Karl and Judy owned and operated the Alta Vista Meat Locker for 20 years. Karl worked as a meat cutter at Dillon’s for 11 years, before retiring.
He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, serving as Trustees Chairman for many years. Karl was on the City Council, serving as Mayor for a number of years. He was a member of the AV Chamber of Commerce, and a Boy Scout leader for many years.
Karl loved his family and he and Vonnie enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren around the Midwest as well as his twin sister and family in Iowa. After retirement, Karl enjoyed having coffee with his friends most mornings at the Barnyard Cafe. Karl was an avid sports fan, he and Vonnie spent time together watching Chiefs, Royals, K-State, and KU sports. He also enjoyed leather working, making model ships and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Judy; son Kyle Lloyd; and brother Richard Lloyd.
Karl is survived by his wife, Lavonne, of the home; children: Tina Lloyd and husband, Jon Christensen, of Prairie Village, KS; Jill Harries and husband, Travis, of Andover, KS; and Rusty Lloyd and wife, Jami, of Grand Junction, CO; and step-children: Kent Siegrist and wife, Kathy, of Laurel, MT; and Lori Bergsten and husband, Rex, of Burnsville, MN. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tony and Sam Christensen; Hayden, Carson, and Dylan Harries; and Elly, Gracie, and Carter Lloyd; step-grandchildren: Riley and Robbie Bergsten; sister: Karen Westphal (Wendall), of Nora Springs, IA; and 3 step-sisters.
At Karl’s request, cremation has taken place. Services will be Saturday, April 27, with visitation at 10 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m. at Simpson United Methodist Church in Alta Vista. A luncheon will follow. His ashes will be scattered in the Colorado mountains later in the summer.
