Heritage Park in Junction City will be the site for an awareness for a safe community event today ( Saturday ).
Mary Snipes lost her son, Felix Snipes, last August in Junction City after a shooting incident. She is coordinating the activities in Heritage Park Saturday. “This is just to bring awareness to our community and our surrounding communities.”
The event has an educational purpose. Snipes stated, “The purpose is to bring acknowledgement, vigilance to suicide, depression, gun violence, domestic violence, bullying, gun safety, self esteem, self image, drunk driving, child abuse, substance abuse, human trafficking, positive thinking neighborhood watch, any type of senseless acts of violence by sharing acts of love, encouragement and praise in the process.
Through her experience, Snipes noted she wants to bring about a positive change.
Beginning at 4 p.m. there will be a sharing of information at booths in the park, and about 5:30 p.m. there will be speakers sharing their personal stories.
