Mary Kay Ryan, 82, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Born June 30, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois, Mary Kay was the daughter of Arthur B. and Lillian B. (Terwelp) Borghorst. She married Robert S. "Bob" Kelley on August 9, 1962 and to this union was born their daughter, Bobbette. Bob preceded her in death on February 12, 1969.&nbsp; She later married Charles J. Ryan on October 19, 1983. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1992.

She was a 1961 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School. Mary Kay worked for several years as an eye care technician in Quincy before working in patient accounts with St. Mary Hospital for many years. When St. Mary Hospital was purchased by Blessing Hospital, she continued her job with them until her retirement.

When she was younger, she and Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles and boating on the Mississippi River. She also enjoyed bowling in various leagues. When she became "Nanny" she loved watching and following the activities of her grandchildren and more recently her great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved caring for her two dogs, first Bogey and later Maggie, and would watch Bobbette's dogs, Sadie and Coco when she was needed. &nbsp;After moving to Manhattan, she loved going to her workout classes at Genesis Health Club where she met a wonderful group of ladies who became very good friends.

Delmar LeRoy Thowe, 80, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Delmar was born July 31, 1945, in Alma, the son of Arthur Christ and Madeline (Kobiskie) Thowe. He attended schools in Alma. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Delmar owned and operated Thowe-Schmanke Construction, building homes and commercial buildings in the Alma area. He worked most of his adult life as a carpenter, for over forty years. In his high school years he also worked for the Howard Meyer Feedlot.

On December 19, 1979, Delmar married Sandra Joyce (Wille) Robinson. They shared forty-six years together, living their lives and raising their family. Sandy survives at their home.

Delmar loved hunting, fishing, and thoroughly enjoyed taking his friends and family along those adventures. He was also known for his garden and his canning abilities. Delmar was also an avid KU basketball and Chiefs fan.

Delmar is also survived by his sons Jay Thowe (Christina), Caballo, New Mexico, and Dusty Thowe (Shannon), Alma; and his grandchildren, Tiffany Thowe, Phoenix, Arizona, Jessica Thowe-Delgado (Jasmine), El Paso, Texas, Reid Jones, Kansas City, Missouri, Ryleigh Jones, Topeka, Trayton Hartwich, Alma, Sadie Hartwich, Alma, Taryn Thowe, Alma, and Dacey Thowe, Alma. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Covington (Calvin), St. Marys. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, John Palenske, Nyla Lesline, Ella Marr, Art Thowe, Robert Thowe, and Vernon Thowe.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, Kansas. Reverend Robert Grimm will be officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the funeral home, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

Veronica L. Osborn, affectionately known as Roni, graced this world with her presence from February 4, 1954, until her passing on December 14, 2025. Born in Amarillo, Texas, Roni’s life was a testament to selflessness and an unwavering love for her family.

Roni married her beloved husband, Robert Osborn, on July 4, 1994, in a heartfelt ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their union marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership characterized by love, laughter, and deep devotion to one another.

Roni was a very giving person whose personality shone brightly in the lives of those around her. Her heart was always open, and she found joy in cherishing her family, which included her cherished sons, David Linn and Stanley Schultz, and her treasured daughter, Miranda Sanchez. Roni took immense pride in her role as a grandmother, enjoying precious moments spent with her grandchildren, Shantelle, "Junior," Cena, Alyssa, and Nova.

In addition to her love for family, Roni had a special place in her heart for all the cats she cared for throughout her life. Her passion for these animals reflected her nurturing spirit and deep compassion.

Roni is survived by her loving husband, Robert Osborn; her children, David Linn, Stanley Schultz, and Miranda Sanchez and her husband Luis; her grandchildren, Shantelle, "Junior," Cena, Alyssa, and Nova; and her brothers, Edward and Kenny Kile. John G. Mix, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 13, 2025, in Wakefield, Kansas. Born on October 13, 1947, in Olean, New York, John was a man known for his giving spirit, humor, and deep love for his family.

A proud veteran, John served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1991, retiring with full honors. His dedication to his country reflected the values of commitment and service that he carried throughout his life.

In June 1969, John married the love of his life, Hellen Bone, at Ft. Kobbe in the Panama Canal zone. Together they built a joyful home filled with laughter and surrounded by their loved ones. Some of John's fondest memories include spending time at home, where he cherished the moments watching baseball with Hellen.

John's talents extended beyond his commitment to family and military service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed engaging in small construction projects around the house. A man of many interests, he played the bass guitar for the band Back Porch Country during the 1980s, performing across Kansas and sharing his love of music with audiences.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Hellen Mix, his son, John G. Mix Jr. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cedeno de Mix, and his cherished grandson, George Neill II. He is also survived by his sister Gerilee Greene and her family from Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Patricia Mix, and his daughter, Rose Mix.

As we remember John G. Mix, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family and country. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Larry John Setter, 79, of McFarland, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at his home.Larry was born September 9, 1946, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Michael J. and Mareeta (Shellhorn) Setter. He was raised in Garnett where he spent his time playing basketball, baseball, frequently riding his bike to hangout with friends in Greeley, and was constantly going whether it was joining the wheat harvest or working locally. 

After graduating from Garnett High School in 1964 he attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University Vo-Tech.Larry served in the United States Air Force and deployed during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Thailand and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant during his military service. Larry worked in logistics, electronics, and special programs.When Larry returned home, he worked for the United Telephone Company, Sprint, Embarq, and CenturyLink. 

During his thirty plus year career, he started as a lineman and eventually worked his way up to the Midwest Region Supervisor. Larry was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing softball, coaching youth wrestling, and assisting with local veteran events and memorials, such as the Vietnam Memorial in Junction City. He was an avid KU, Chiefs, and Royals fan and his frequent shouts of Rock Chalk let you know it. He was a people person, and his sociability and good humor created friends wherever he went. He was especially known for the meticulous care of his vehicles which was a point of personal pride. Larry's civic mindedness led him to serve on the McFarland City Council and other local government positions.

Larry is survived by his children, Neshawn VanCleave, Cherokee, Kansas, Robert M. Setter (Lecia), Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and T.J. Setter, McFarland, Kansas; his grandchildren, Caleb, Aaron, Emily, Josh, Rhett, Matthew, Alyssa, and Annelise; and his great-grandchildren David, Micah, and Skarlett. He is also survived by his siblings, Don Setter (Marydale), Olathe, Kansas, and Gary Setter (Wilma), Westphalia, Kansas. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Robert.

Larry John Setter

Roger Wayne Lawson, affectionately known as “Big O” by his friends and “Uncle Roger” by many throughout the community, passed away on December 6, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas, at the age of 80. He was born on May 16, 1945, to Wayne and Helen Lawson.

Roger was known for his vibrant personality—funny, witty, and kind—and for his natural ability to make everyone around him feel valued and loved. He cherished his family deeply and prioritized every moment spent together. Holiday gatherings at the home he shared with Sue became treasured traditions filled with stories, laughter, and lasting memories. His devotion to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson was evident in every aspect of his life.

Roger attended Pleasant View School for eight years before continuing his education in Junction City, where he graduated in 1963. After high school, he worked on the construction of Milford Dam and later as a mechanic at J.C. Co-op, Montgomery Ward, City Cycle Sales, Skelly Station, and Meyers Construction. Over the years, he owned and operated a local car wash, purchased and managed the trailer court on East 6th Street, and built and oversaw Midland Acres Mobile Home Park. In 1999, Roger founded his own construction company, completing numerous small projects throughout Junction City and Fort Riley. His work was always marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and a generosity of spirit that endeared him to many.

Roger married Wynetta Ann Stewart on May 7, 1966, in Junction City, and together they had two daughters, Amy and Ann Lawson. They later divorced in 1975.

On December 15, 1978, Roger married the love of his life, Sue Cervera Ziegler, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they created a beautifully blended family of four children.

Roger had many passions, especially motorcycles and classic cars. But above all, his greatest joy came from the life he built with his family. He will be remembered not only for his hard work and contributions to the community but for the countless lives he touched with his humor, warmth, and unwavering kindness.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria Sue Lawson; his son Kenny (Michelle) Ziegler; daughters Amy Brown, Ann (Don) Minor, and Lynn Ziegler; and his grandchildren Danie (Brandon) Martino, Morgan Ziegler, Seth Brown, Jessica Brown, Kadyn Ziegler, Maddie Minor, and Claire Minor. He also delighted in being a great-grandfather to Bennett Martino. Additional survivors include his sister Mary Beth (Harvey) Thompson, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. All will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew Ryan Thompson, and his niece Deenie Cervera.

Visitation will be held on December 19, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, Kansas. A memorial service will follow on December 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 113 West 5th Street, Junction City, Kansas.

Roger W. Lawson leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and steadfast family values that will continue to resonate with all who knew him. His humor and kindness will be profoundly missed, but his memory will forever be cherished.

Retiring from Civil Service on January 3, 2004 from the Department of Army's Civilian Human Resources Agency where she served as a Human Resources Specialist.&nbsp;

She is survived by her two sons Gary Hartung and Doug (Tara) Hartung all of Manhattan, Kansas; three grandchildren; Sacha Hartung, Jacob Hartung, and Emily Hartung. Marta "Marty" Lee Perta, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas. Born on January 18, 1951, in Junction City, Kansas where she lived for most of her life, she was a beloved figure to her family and friends, and devoted much of her life to caring for others.

Marty had a career in education, starting as a medical assistant with the Head Start program before spending many rewarding years as a paraprofessional at Eisenhower and Franklin Elementary Schools within USD #475. Her dedication to her students and the educational community was a testament to her passion for nurturing young minds. Prior to her career in education, she was well known to the community from working in the Optical Department at Walmart for ten years.

A voracious reader, Marty found joy and escape immersing herself in countless books over the years and was a frequent patron of the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library. She loved to travel to visit family and friends and set sail on her first cruise at the age of 66, fulfilling a life-long dream.

Marty's family was the center of her life. She was the proud mother of four children: Ralph Perta and his wife Wendy of Gladstone, Missouri, Amy Perta of Shawnee, Kansas, Abriel Peralta of Buffalo, New York and Joseph Peralta of Manhattan, Kansas. Affectionately referred to as "Grammy”, she was a cherished grandmother to Mercedez Cabrera of Junction City, Giovonna Rodriguez of Topeka, and Avery Rausch of Wichita, as well as a great-grandmother to Ezra Ruiz of Junction City. She ensured that each of them was baptized and confirmed in their Catholic faith, highlighting her commitment to family traditions and faith.

Beyond her immediate family, Marty's legacy extends to her five siblings: Rick Teidel of Junction City, Camice Hernandez of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tiffani Whaley of Manhattan, Kansas, Patrick McGuire Jr. of Bellevue, Nebraska and Steve Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her sister Jane McIntyre and her parents, Patrick F. and Gladys M. (Bean) McGuire, who instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion that she carried throughout her life.

Among her many contributions to the community, Marty actively participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life for many years following her own battle with cancer in 1998.

A Rosary service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, Kansas, on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM with Father Vincent John officiating. &nbsp;As we remember Marty Perta, we celebrate her spirit, her love for family, and her lasting legacy of caring for others.

&nbsp; Thomas Edward Riffenburg, 62, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Onaga Hospital.&nbsp; He was a long-time resident of the community.

Thomas was born March 24, 1963, in Bakersfield, California, the son of Sherman and Barbara (Crenshaw) Riffenburg.&nbsp; He attended Arvin, California High School.He worked for several years on the oil rigs in the oil fields near Bakersfield.&nbsp; However, Thomas was medically disabled in 1991.&nbsp; He then moved to Westmoreland.

Even with his disability, Thomas enjoyed being outdoors, soaking up the sunshine.&nbsp; He would help his neighbors to pick up their yards and enjoyed walking to the drug store or the South 40 Cafe to drink coffee and visit with friends.

Thomas is survived by his sister, Diana Frazier, of Westmoreland; his nephew, Michael Frazier (Trish), Westmoreland; and his step-father, Richard Lucero (Carrie), Bakersfield; and half-sister, Beverly Collins, also of Bakersfield.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his half-siblings, Charles and Billie. Graveside inurnment services will be held at Westmoreland City Cemetery at a future date.&nbsp;

Janet Lea Fox, 71, of Largo, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Seasons Belleair Memory Care in Clearwater, Florida.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Born June 3, 1954, in Westmoreland, Kansas, Janet was the daughter of Verne and Helen (Julien) Fleming. She married Eugene D. Fox on September 7, 1974, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys, Kansas; he survives.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Faith was an important part of Janet’s life, and she was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo, Florida. An avid reader, she also enjoyed baking, scrapbooking, word search puzzles, collecting snowmen, and angels. Janet was an accomplished at sewing and made clothes, rabbits, and costumes for schools and Halloween.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Janet was employed with the Adoption Unit for the State of Florida, which she thoroughly enjoyed for several years. During her time there, Janet and Eugene were blessed with adopting their two oldest children, Pegi and Windy. She retired from the state at age 62.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Survivors include her husband, Eugene; three daughters, Pegi L. Fox of Tampa, FL, Windy M. Fox of Tampa, FL, and Abbie L. Fox of Largo, FL; two grandchildren, Taylor M. Fox and Xavier A. Wilson; a brother, Larry Fleming of St. George, KS; two sisters, Susan Fleming of Lake Kanopolis, KS, and Joyce (Fleming) Mills (Steve) of Abilene, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Janet was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister-in-law, Joyce (Thomas) Fleming.

A devoted member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church, William found solace and fellowship within his faith community. His love for animals and a strong work ethic defined his personality, making him a cherished figure among family and friends.

On November 12, 1961, he married Carrie J. Myers in Junction City, Kansas, embarking on a life filled with love and family. He is survived by two sons, Russell D. Riddle of Junction City, Kansas, and Bruce A. Riddle and his wife Melinda of Conroe, Texas. William also leaves behind two daughters, Carla Sue Clark and her husband Thomas of Louisville, Ohio, and Sandra K. Fowler and her husband Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colorado. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as two brothers, Roger Riddle and Glen Riddle.

William was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Douglas Riddle; two grandsons, Travis Alan Fowler and Bradley Aaron Riddle; and four sisters and three brothers.

Jimmie L. Burch, a lifelong member of the Junction City community, passed away on December 2, 2025, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas. He was born on December 11, 1941, in Garfield, Arkansas, to Wesley James and Oria Marie (Powell) Burch. His life was marked by deep dedication to his family, his friendships, and his work in the community.

Junction City became his home when his father was stationed at Fort Riley with the U.S. Army, and it remained the center of his life for decades. On July 14, 1958, he married Renate “Rena” Schultz in Junction City, Kansas. Their 67-year marriage was the cornerstone of his life.

Jimmie was a true friend to many and genuinely loved spending time visiting and connecting with people. He built a reputation as a hardworking, devoted businessman, owning and operating Burch Roofing Company, Jim’s Tavern, Corner Club, Circle B, and We Buy Recycling—businesses that reflected his strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and deep commitment to serving others.

He lit up at family gatherings, happiest when multiple generations were together under one roof, sharing his stories, his values, and his love. His grandchildren cherish memories of long talks about old classic cars and riding around town at his side, pockets full of quarters for the jukebox, pinball, and shuffleboard. They loved going down to the shop to “help” with the compactor, raid the candy machine in his office, and listen to him talk about his collectibles. In those simple moments, he quietly handed them the best inheritance he could give: his work ethic, his determination, and his entrepreneurial spark.

Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Rena Burch; sons, Kenny Burch and Steve Burch (Sheila); daughters, Dianna Burch (Harlan “Jr.”) and Tami Burch; half-brother, James Burch (Yvonne); and half-sister, Cindy Gilmore. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Michelle Corbin, Robert Swarthout (Hanna), Shane Swarthout (Beth), Steven L. Burch (Ryan Garrison), Corey Burch (Erin), and Nickales Jaecke; a devoted great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren—Noah, Jasmine, Haylea, Jaylen, Mikayla, Colton, Liam, Zoey, Oliver, Lexie, Deacon, Lucille, and Maylie Lane—and great-great-granddaughter, Lyla Swarts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley James Burch and Oria Marie (Powell); his stepmother, Lucille Burch; and his grandson, Christopher Levi Burch.

Raymond Richardson, 80, lifelong resident of McFarland, Kansas, passed away surrounded by his family on November 25, 2025, at Kelly House Assisted Living, Meriden, Kansas.&nbsp; Raymond was born in Wamego, Kansas, on March 10, 1945, the first in a set of twins with his sister Rosemary. 

Raymond was the ninth of ten children born to parents Stephen Roscoe Richardson and Cora Belle Shoemaker.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, he attended barber school, but after an accident at 19, he was left with a brain injury. Despite the unfortunate accident, he brought brightness to everyone he met and worked hard in construction jobs.&nbsp; Raymond loved fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and playing the card game pitch with his sister Annamae. He was a devoted member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and had a deep love for Jesus, eagerly sharing His word with others. One of his greatest joys was singing “Because He Lives.”&nbsp; 

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Charlotte Meseke, Dolorese Beavers, Rosemary Hamilton, and Little Mildred; and his brothers Steve Richardson, Hal Richardson, John (Jack) Richardson, and Robert Richardson.&nbsp; Raymond is survived by his sister Annamae Anderson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.&nbsp;

Elizabeth Myrna (McCombs) Kelly "Kitty", passed peacefully at her home in Junction City, Kansas on November 27, 2025 at the age of 80. She was born on March 23, 1945 in Homestead, Pennsylvania.&nbsp;

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; father, Vance McCombs Sr. and mother, Cecilia (McCellan) McCombs; brother Vance McCombs Jr.; and sisters Andrea Chojnacki and Jane Cieslewiz.&nbsp;

Elizabeth is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Glenn Kelly Jr. (US Army Retired); children Johnna Strait of Lutz, Florida, Donna Miller of Crossville, Tennessee, Thomas (Corie) Strait of Zepherhills, Florida, Veronica (Michael) Terstegen of Elizabeth Town, Kentucky, Jean Kelly of Junction City, Kansas, and her dog Nikki. Elizabeth and Glenn have 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Elizabeth's life was one marked by strength, and an unwavering spirit. Elizabeth embraced a life of dedication and resilience supporting her family in the role of a military wife.&nbsp;

The Kelly home was a place where generations gathered to share stories and create memories. She loved traveling, visiting Graceland where she enjoyed singing and admiring "Elvis", and also loved trips to Mt. Rushmore.&nbsp;

Kent C. Strang, born on May 6, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on November 21, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy of joy and adventure. Kent dedicated a significant part of his career to the real estate industry, where he worked as a property tax consultant in Los Angeles. In 1986, he took a bold step and established his own commercial real estate business, Kent Strang &amp; Associates, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence.

In 1958, Kent joined the United States Army, fulfilling his military service until 1960. This experience undoubtedly shaped his character, contributing to the gentlemanly and friendly persona he was known for. Kent was a man who appreciated all that life had to offer, embodying a spirit that was outdoorsy, spontaneous, and adventurous.

After serving in the Army, Kent pursued his education with determination, graduating from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in economics. His thirst for knowledge and desire to excel drove him throughout his professional life.

In 1984, Kent met Sandra Henington in Los Angeles, and their connection blossomed into a remarkable partnership. Together, they traveled across the country and ventured around the world, exploring new places and sharing beautiful memories, including boating trips to Mexico and their cherished spot, Catalina Island. They eventually relocated to Manhattan, Kansas, in 2020, though they spent most of their journey in California.

Kent's hobbies and interests included boating, biking, traveling, and fishing, reflecting his love for nature and adventure. He was also a wine connoisseur and had a particular fondness for drinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, which became a favorite&nbsp;among friends and family.

Kent’s personality radiated warmth and humor, making him a beloved figure among those who knew him. He enjoyed life to its fullest and embraced every moment with a smile. His proudest accomplishments include owning his own yacht and marrying Sandra, with whom he shared a deep and meaningful life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Henington) Strang; mother-in-law, Sheila Burdett; brothers-in-law, Mack (Ruth) Henington and Chris Henington; sister-in-law, Sheila (Steve) Burch; his sister, Linda Looney; and a plethora of nieces and nephews who will carry on his memory.

Francis Joseph “Joe” Callahan III, 78, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

Joe was born on December 27, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Francis Joseph Callahan II and Mary (Krouse) Callahan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, later earned his degree from Kansas State University, and went on to operate Krouse Cattle Company as a dedicated farmer and rancher.

In 1973, Joe married Mary Virginia “Ginny” Buie, and together they shared nearly 30 years of marriage until her passing in 2002. In June 2007, he married Cheryl Marcoux. Joe and Cheryl shared a life together full of adventure, bird watching, cooking, and countless hours spent exploring the outdoors on their ATVs. A true outdoorsman, Joe found joy in hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and tending his vegetable garden. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, an active member of the National Trappers Association, and previously involved with Pheasants Forever and Quail Unlimited.

Joe is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cheryl Callahan; his children, Patricia “Tricia” Callahan and Francis Joseph Callahan IV (Cara Beirne); and his grandchildren, Samantha, Pearl, and Violet. He is also survived by his siblings, Connie (Jeff) Richards and Tim (Nancy) Callahan; his stepchildren, Rachel Rubio (Edgar) and Lee Marcoux (Alysha); and his step-grandchildren, Gabriel and Isabel Rubio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Buie.

John R. Selvidge, Jr. (81) passed away at his home on November 20, 2025. He was born on July 21, 1944 at Ft. Riley, Kansas to John R. Selvidge Sr. and Helen E. Selvidge. His father was in the Army, so he spent some of his childhood years in Germany (1949-54 and 1956-59). He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1962. John worked at Endicott Electric for about a year and was a truck driver for Kershaw Ready Mix for several years, prior to starting his career in 1973 as a Police Officer at Kansas State University. He retired in 2002. 

In 1975, he married Peggy Blacker and they had two children, Todd and Dana. They divorced in 1993. 

John enjoyed going to auctions, car shows and gun shows with his friends. He liked buying and trading guns, and seeing those classic cars, but the friendships he formed with those guys was very important to him. He also enjoyed watching K-State sports and the KC Chiefs games from the comfort of his home. He loved watching westerns on tv or was busy reading a western book. 

The light of his life was his family-especially his grandchildren. His granddaughter, MaKenna, was very special to him. She was very active in sports throughout her school years. She played softball, volleyball, and basketball. He loved going to as many games as he could to watch her play. She got a volleyball scholarship at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas in the Fall of 2025, but his health was declining and he was unable to attend any of her games. Her career path is in nursing. He was very proud of her. He was also proud of his step-granddaughters, as they are also pursuing their college dreams-- Alanna in Secondary Education and Kyla in Horticulture. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Selvidge, Sr. and Helen E. Selvidge; sister, Mary Horn; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Selvidge.

He is survived by his son, Alex McPhearson (Todd at birth), of St. George, daughter, Dana (Jason) Walsh, of Leonardville; granddaughter, MaKenna Wamsher, of Leonardville; step grandchildren Zacharij Wamsher, of Louisburg, MO; Alanna and Kyla Walsh, of Leonardville; brother Harold R. Selvidge, of Topeka; nephew, Sean (Nicole) Selvidge, of Topeka; great nephew and niece, Nathan and Jessica Selvidge of Topeka; and other nieces and nephews in Indiana.

Myrtle May Wilson (better known as Mitzi) passed away on November 20th, 2025, after 93 years of loving life and family.&nbsp;

Mitzi was born in Alma Kansas on January 24th, 1932, the fifth of seven children whose parents were Edward and Marguerite Stuewe.&nbsp;

Mitzi retired as a bookkeeper for the biology department of Kansas State University. Her husband for over 50 years, John (Jack) predeceased her in 2002.&nbsp;

Mitzi is survived by her three children Meryl Wilson (Nancy), Janis Wilson, Kirk Wilson (Betty) and her sister Donna Rafferty.&nbsp;

Her love for family is reflected by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jack and Mitzi Wilson Scholarship Fund through Manhattan High School or a charity of your choice in their name.&nbsp;

Johnny Lial Oxford, 76, of<a href="https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/local/kansas/chapman">Chapman, Kansas</a>, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. Born on March 5, 1949, in Neosho, Missouri, to the late Ralph and Edith (Sage) Oxford, John lived a life marked by dedication, service, faith, and love for his family.John proudly served in the United States Army from June 17, 1969, to August 31, 1991, retiring as a distinguished Infantry Noncommissioned Officer.

His 22 years of service were defined by unwavering commitment, leadership, and courage. John cherished his time in uniform, taking immense pride in serving his country with honor and integrity. Johnny Lial Oxford

Freddie Harris Meyer, 88 of Alma, Kansas, died Nov 24, 2025, at the Heritage Home in Alma after an illness. He was a lifelong member of the Wabaunsee County Alma community.

Fred was born January 19, 1937, in rural Wabaunsee County on the farm, the son of Fredder and Malinda Steege-Meyer. He attended the local St John Lutheran school and graduated from Alma High School in 1955. He was baptized on February 28, 1937, and was confirmed on March 18, 1951.

He married JoAnn Hodge on November 25, 1962, in Alta Vista, Kansas. She preceded him in death. They had a daughter, Kathy Cox.

After graduation, Fred served in the Navy. He returned to Alma, where he worked with his brother, Warren, as a rancher, truck driver, and owner of Meyer Truck Line. He continued this work until he retired.

Fred served the City of Alma as a Council member and then served as the City Mayor from 1989 to 1997. Fred was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he served in different roles as an usher and trustee.

Fred’s hobbies revolved around sports. In his younger years, he played fast-pitch softball and coached his daughter’s softball teams. He was an avid St Louis Cardinal fan and is a proud owner of a brick at Cardinal Stadium. He loved watching sports: Wabaunsee High, KSU wildcats, KU Jayhawks, St Louis Cardinals, KC Royals, and the Chiefs. He loved his annual guys’ trips to watch the Cardinals in St Louis. He was very proud of his daughter and his grandchildren and spent countless hours driving to various practices and attending their sporting events. Every year, he would take them on a vacation to explore somewhere in Kansas or to St Louis for a ball series.

Freddie Harris Meyer

Dale Wayne Taylor was born July 19, 1959 in Horton, Kansas to Clyde Robert and Dorothy Alvina Taylor. He left this life on November 24, 2025, at the age of 66 years old.

Dale loved the outdoors, he loved to fish and hunt. Dale wasn’t one to conform, he wanted thing on his terms. He quit school at the age of 17 to enter the working world in Junction City, living with family and friends while working for Mid America Movers and other moving companies. He met his first wife, Sue, and shortly after they moved to Florida to learn carpentry with Environmental Homes, a family-owned company. A few years later, he moved back to Chapman, Kansas. He struggled with his vices, got divorced and found his way back to Florida. It was then that he met his wife, Colleen, who survives him. After several years he began driving trucks, moving to Provo, Utah, until coming back to Kansas in 2004, where he lived until the end of his life.

Dale truly missed Kansas. He was aided by his brother buying property and was able to build a home in the country North of Chapman, Kansas next to Milford Lake, a place he loved. He fulfilled his dream of having a home in the country and was joined by other family members: his dad and step mother, who proceeded him in death; his sister, Laronda Smith, and her husband Vance; his brother Val and wife Becky. Dale is also survived by his sister, Stacy Campbell, and his step brother, Mike Post. His oldest sister, Clydene Rauch, also preceded him in death. Others left to honor the memory of Dale are his nephews and nieces, their children and many cousins, and we cannot forget his beloved pups, Jesse and Buddy, whom he dearly loved.

Dale loved to fish and hunt, the family would like to think of him off doing what he lived to do, catching big fish and chasing deer.

Earl Deines was born in Abilene, Kansas September 17,1947 and passed away November 21,2025 in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up on the family farm and attended Chapman schools.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1965 from Dickinson County Community High School.

Earl helped his folks on the family farm and worked for Bob Hollinger in High School. After graduation he served in the Army Reserves. &nbsp;Earl attended Brown Mackie where he met Kay Rust.&nbsp; They were married and had two children Amy Williams and Kevin Deines. After they divorced Earl met and married Betty Eis and they had two children Nathan Deines and Erin McComas.&nbsp;

Earl is survived by his wife of 49 years Betty Deines and his four children as well as 5 grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Lorinda Battishill of Chapman and Donita Sellin of Wichita.

Preceding Earl in death were his brother Rodney Deines and his parents Lester and Vera Deines.

Earl helped his folks on the farm from an early age and worked odd jobs to supplement the farm but farming was his calling.&nbsp; He was a member of Hi Y, FFA and Young Farmers.&nbsp; He was a member of Scherer Memorial Lutheran Church.

Bessie B. Marlatt, 95 was born January 2, 1930 in Underwood, Iowa to George and Emma (Rasmussen) O’Doniel. She left us on November 19, 2025. Bessie worked for Hallmark Cards in Topeka, KS in the 50’s. She went to school and received her license from Kansas Board of Cosmetology in 1953. She married Eddie William Marlatt on May 28, 1954. A daughter, Susan was born in 1960 and son David was born in 1962. After Susan graduated, they moved to Salina, KS. She worked at Asbury Hospital now called Salina regional Hospital where she worked in Housekeeping and in the Labor and Delivery Department for over 20 years. She retired in 1994. She, her three sisters and their brother did everything together. They loved to walk, explore and fish. With the brother involved, they never knew what they would be doing next. Growing up in the Great Depression, they learned at a very young age the value of what little they had. Bessie is survived by her daughter, Susan Weberg, six grandchildren, Alysha Colborn, Brook Weberg, Chelsey Raab, Kelly Marlatt, Karly Marlatt and Tiffany McNutt and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, David, her twin sister, Betty, sisters, Phyllis Jackson, Hope Riffel and brother, James.

Arthur Rector, 92 of Abilene passed away November 19, 2025. He was born April 27, 1933 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Estella (Gray) Rector. On September 21, 1952 he was united in marriage to Dolores Rufener. She preceded him in death in December of 2007. 

Arthur worked for Lucky Stores in California for 23 ½ years as an assistant manager and later becoming manager. He later moved back to the Dickinson County area and worked general labor for ADM Mill for 18 years. Arthur is survived by his two sons, Gary Rector and Michael Rector and wife Kathy. Grandchildren: Christopher Rector, Jennifer Rector, Joseph Allen, Larry, Tim, Teresea and Jennifer. Great-Grandchildren: Darren, Dawson, Danielle, Erin, Dusty, Larry JR, Gary, Michael and Leon. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Delores, parents, granddaughter, Tina and siblings, Clarence, Cliff, Everett, Charlie, Dessi, Harold, Herb and Bob. 

Funeral Services for Arthur will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-7PM at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Hospice of Dickinson County. Chiyoko Denham, an esteemed and award-winning barber, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, in Junction City, Kansas. She was born on December 16, 1935, in Sendai, Japan, to her parents Tadashi Sasaki and Yoshimi Saiki.

Chiyoko's journey was one marked by both professional achievement and personal devotion. After marrying Barbie (Bobbie) Roy Denham on May 10, 1957, in Tokyo, Japan, she carried her passion for barbering across the ocean to the United States. Chiyoko's skill and dedication in her craft garnered her recognition and respect in her community, where she continued to touch the lives of many throughout her career.

Beyond her professional life, Chiyoko enjoyed enriching her personal experiences with varied hobbies and interests. She was an avid gardener, finding solace and joy in tending to her plants. Fishing brought her peace, making it a beloved pastime that allowed her to connect with nature. Furthermore, Chiyoko shared her vitality and enthusiasm for health as an instructor for senior center exercise classes, fostering fitness and well-being within the Junction City community.

Chiyoko's life was not without its share of heartbreak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie, who passed away on January 6, 2023, and their infant son, Barbie Roy Denham Jr.&nbsp;
